The Lombardo family followed directions last year when Hurricane Irene hit and evacuated their home. Thankfully it was spared. This time with Sandy they were not so lucky. Michelle Lombardo was living in Staten Island with her two young children (Christian, 11 and Gianna, 3) when Hurricane Sandy arrived. The entire first floor of their rented townhouse was destroyed by the flood. The house remains unlivable, and while the owner is taking steps to repair the home, the family has been displaced into a local hotel in Staten Island having no other place to live.
The family has three dogs Bandit, Princess and Snuggles and one cat Peanut. Since they have been displaced they have been forced to leave their dogs with Michelle's dad and leave Peanut in their house with no power or heat. They go back to the house each day to check on Peanut and the status of their house - it is upsetting for the children every time they visit.
Michelle is currently not able to work due in part to her living arrangements and the fact that her car was lost in the hurricane. Additionally, they lost most of life's essentials to Sandy. It is very difficult to get her kids to and from school and maintain some sense of normalcy for them but they are doing their best. Hopefully, with your help, we can get them back into their home for the New Year.
